Odd shape
The alarm that makes you spot the odd shape out
Odd shape is a visual puzzle alarm: a grid fills with copies of one shape and a single different one, and you have to find it and tap it before the alarm stops. The first grid has 9 shapes and each one you solve adds 3 more, so the search gets longer as you go. No reading, no numbers and no color: shapes only.
How it works
- 1
Choose Odd shape as the mission and a level: Easy is 2 grids, Medium 3, Hard 5.
- 2
When the alarm rings, tap Start mission. A grid of identical shapes appears with one intruder, say a pentagon among hexagons.
- 3
Tap the odd one, and the next grid is bigger. A wrong tap adds a grid (“Not that one. One more grid.”), and there is no time limit.
- 4
Solve the last grid and the alarm stops. Swiping the alarm away or pressing Stop doesn't count; it comes back until you finish.
What you can set
- Level: Easy (2 grids), Medium (3) or Hard (5)
- Shapes: circle, square, triangle, diamond, hexagon, star, pentagon and capsule, told apart by form alone, so it works without color vision
- Ring during missions (per alarm, on by default): switch it off to search in quiet
Why a visual search instead of a sum?
A search can't be answered from memory or by reflex. You have to look across the grid until you find the one that's wrong, and the grid grows every time you do. It suits people who find words or numbers too much first thing but still want something a sleepy thumb can't do alone. If you want a reflex to fight as well, Color tap adds one.
How the grids grow
| Level | Grids to solve | Shapes in each grid |
|---|---|---|
| Easy | 2 | 9, then 12 |
| Medium | 3 | 9, 12, 15 |
| Hard | 5 | 9, 12, 15, 18, 21 |
A wrong tap gives you a fresh grid of the same size and one more to solve, so the mission gets longer but never jumps ahead. Start on Easy or Medium, and move to Hard when you spot the odd one at a glance.
Free to download for iPhone (iOS 17.6 or later). Setting alarms needs WakeOps Premium, an in-app subscription. Every mission can be tried for free.
Common questions
Does it need reading, numbers or color vision?
None of them. The shapes are told apart by their outlines alone, so it works for anyone who can see the screen.
Is it the same grid every morning?
No. The shapes and the odd one's position are drawn fresh each time, so there is nothing to memorize.
What happens if I tap the wrong shape?
One more grid is added to the mission. Nothing resets and the alarm doesn't end; you just have another one to find.
