Simple
The gentlest wake-up mission: hold to confirm
Simple asks you to press and hold for two seconds to stop the alarm. It is the gentlest of the 19 WakeOps missions: more than a swipe, because a brief tap isn't enough, but still something you could do half asleep. That makes it an honest first step, not a fix for switching alarms off in your sleep.
How it works
- 1
Choose Simple as the alarm's mission. There is nothing else to set.
- 2
When the alarm rings, tap Start mission. The screen says “Press and hold for 2 seconds.”
- 3
Hold the ring until it fills. Let go early and it empties, and you start the hold again.
- 4
When it fills, the alarm stops and the morning is recorded. Pressing the system Stop button instead doesn't count, and the alarm comes back.
What you can set
- No settings of its own: the hold is always 2 seconds
- Ring during missions (per alarm, on by default)
- Still-awake check (per alarm: off, 5, 10 or 15 minutes): a “Still up?” alarm after the win, stopped by one round of easy sums. It makes a gentle mission harder to sleep through.
When Simple is the right choice
- Your first week, while you get used to an alarm with no snooze button.
- Mornings you're reliably up but want the alarm to wait for a deliberate press, not a stray tap.
- A day when a physical or puzzle mission isn't an option.
It is the wrong choice if you have ever turned an alarm off without remembering. For that, start with Math or a mission that gets you out of bed. How a no-snooze alarm works explains the rest of the approach.
Free to download for iPhone (iOS 17.6 or later). Setting alarms needs WakeOps Premium, an in-app subscription. Every mission can be tried for free.
Common questions
Isn't this just a slower dismiss button?
Close to it, and that is the honest answer. It asks for more than a swipe, but it is still something you can do without waking, so it is a first step rather than a solution.
When should I move off it?
The first time you catch yourself finishing it without remembering. Then pick Math for a quiet room, or Photo or Steps if getting back into bed is the problem.
Can a harder mission fall back to Simple?
No. If a camera, motion or voice mission can't run, it offers Math, never Simple, so a refused permission can't turn a hard alarm into an easy one.
Will the alarm ring if my iPhone is on silent?
On iOS 26 and later, yes: WakeOps alarms are system alarms that ring through silent mode and Focus. On iOS 17.6 to 18 they are Time Sensitive notifications, which get through Focus but make no sound with the Ring/Silent switch on silent. More in why an iPhone alarm doesn't go off.
